Seguramente muchos en la comunidad lo hemos visto vendiendo riqu\u00edsimos panes y empanadas caseras en su bicicleta, pero su pasi\u00f3n reside en otro lado. El Che convierte tapitas de pl\u00e1stico en tablas, llaveros, cajas, banquetas y su \u00faltimo logro: composteras.

Desde que lleg\u00f3 al pueblo, hace ya 17 a\u00f1os, levantaba pl\u00e1sticos de la playa pero sent\u00eda que no era una soluci\u00f3n con impacto real, s\u00f3lo significaba correr el problema de lugar. Un d\u00eda, deprimido por la inmensa cantidad de residuos que ve\u00eda en la playa, decidi\u00f3 investigar y encontrar una respuesta: darle un uso a todo ese pl\u00e1stico. As\u00ed es como dio con unos tutoriales para construir m\u00e1quinas que convierten las tapitas de pl\u00e1stico en nuevos materiales. Con la ayuda de Thomas Ritchie, logr\u00f3 conseguir una trituradora y un horno para poder llevar su proyecto a cabo, as\u00ed naci\u00f3 Proyecto L-Eco. Lo que hace es recompactar: tritura las tapitas, las funde y las compacta para armar las tablas. Luego las corta y crea diferentes productos. El pl\u00e1stico tiene que ser del mismo tipo (PP o HDPE) para poder fundirlo junto a la misma temperatura, si no puede llegar a prenderse fuego. El Che trata de no generar contaminaci\u00f3n en ning\u00fan punto del proceso.

Hoy en d\u00eda est\u00e1 buscando vivir de esto, su proyecto se est\u00e1 desarrollando a gran velocidad, al igual que sus ideas. Por ahora, solo utiliza tapitas, pero en un futuro espera poder hacer eco ladrillos con pl\u00e1sticos de playa, los cuales est\u00e1n mezclados y es dif\u00edcil desentra\u00f1ar qu\u00e9 tipo de pl\u00e1sticos son. Asimismo, quiere conseguir un horno m\u00e1s grande para poder hacer tabletas para construcci\u00f3n y est\u00e1 trabajando en rampas para discapacitados para las entradas a las playas \u00a1Todo hecho de pl\u00e1stico reutilizado!

Cuando uno toma conciencia, no hay vuelta atr\u00e1s. \u201cNo quiero ser fatalista pero estamos en un momento crucial, hay que tomar una decisi\u00f3n y cambiar completamente\u201d dice el Che. Lo que busca es un cambio de h\u00e1bitos. Tenemos que tener presente al medio ambiente en cada cosa que hacemos, cada vez que vamos al supermercado, cada vez que vamos a ver las olas en moto o cada vez que consumimos frutas o verduras envueltas en pl\u00e1stico. Nos explica entusiasmado que \u201cEl pl\u00e1stico no es el problema, es un gran producto, el problema es el humano que no sabe utilizarlo\u201d, el Che no quiere iniciar una guerra contra el petr\u00f3leo, solo quiere que cada vez seamos m\u00e1s los que cambiemos nuestra mentalidad. Y r\u00e1pidamente y con la ayuda de la comunidad lo est\u00e1 logrando.

It’s a combination of what you like, what you’re good at, something you could get paid for, and what the world needs. Alejandro Morales, better known as “El Che”, believes he has found it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Surely, many in the community have seen him selling delicious homemade pieces of bread and empanadas on his bicycle, but his passion lies elsewhere. El Che turns plastic caps into boards, key chains, boxes, benches, and his latest achievement: compost boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ever since he arrived to town, 17 years ago, he always did beach cleanups, however, he felt that it was not a real impact solution, it just meant shifting the problem somewhere else. One day, depressed by the immense amount of waste he saw on the beach, he decided to do some research and find a real answer: make use of all that plastic. He found some tutorials to build machines that convert plastic caps into new materials. With the help of Thomas Ritchie, he managed to get a crusher and an oven to carry out his project, and L-Eco Project was born. What he does is recompact: it shreds the plastic, melts, and compacts it to assemble the boards. Then he cuts them and creates different products. The plastic must be of the same type (PP or HDPE) to be able to melt at the same temperature, it can catch fire otherwise. El Che tries not to generate pollution at any point in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Today, he is looking to make this project his livelihood, L-Eco project is developing at high speed, so are his ideas. For now, he only uses caps, but in the future, he hopes to build eco-bricks with beach plastics, which is a challenge as it mixes different types of plastics. Likewise, he wants to get a bigger oven to be able to make planks for construction. He is also working on building handicapped ramps for the beaches entrances, all made out of reused plastic!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once you open your eyes and become aware, there is no going back. \u201cI don’t want to be fatalistic here, but we are at a crucial moment, we have to make a decision and change completely,\u201d says Che. What he is looking for is a change of habits. We have to keep the environment in mind in everything we do, every time we go to the supermarket, every time we go to check the waves or every time we consume fruits or vegetables wrapped in plastic. He emphatically explains “plastic is not the problem, it is a great product. The problem is that human beings do not know how to use it”, he doesn\u2019t want to start a war against oil, he just wants to share his philosophy and to promote mentality change.
