Cuando el fosfato est\u00e1 por encima de 0.2 mg por litro significa que hay un desbalance que genera consecuencias perjudiciales para su biodiversidad.\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Estos son algunos de los resultados de enero 2020:&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">R\u00edo Ario: fosf\u00e1to 0.91 mg por litro<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rio Manzanillo: fosf\u00e1to 1.75 mg por litro<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quebrada Carmen: fosfato 0.62 mg por litro<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quebrada Danta: fosfato 0.26 mg por litro<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Todos estos r\u00edos contienen altos niveles de fosfato. Este elemento es un nutriente que proviene del jab\u00f3n, detergentes, fertilizantes, desechos org\u00e1nicos e inorg\u00e1nicos, residuos forestales, entre otras cosas. <strong>Si en nuestras casas o comercios no tenemos un buen sistema de tratamiento del agua, estamos contribuyendo directamente al incremento de fosfato en los r\u00edos que nos rodean y, por ende, a la disminuci\u00f3n de su biodiversidad.\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Como consecuencia de los altos niveles de fosfato se origina un proceso llamado eutrofizaci\u00f3n: aumenta la cantidad de nutrientes (nitr\u00f3geno y f\u00f3sforo) que alimentan las algas; al haber m\u00e1s alimento, las algas se reproducen en exceso y generan un enturbiamiento del agua y una disminuci\u00f3n en el ox\u00edgeno de ese ecosistema. Cuando esto sucede, los otros seres vivos de ese r\u00edo no tienen luz ni ox\u00edgeno suficientes para sobrevivir, generando finalmente una disminuci\u00f3n de la biodiversidad de ese r\u00edo.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 pod\u00e9s hacer para dejar de matar pececitos y otros seres vivos con tu jab\u00f3n y tu excremento? <strong>Ten\u00e9s que instalar un buen sistema de tratamiento en tu casa o comercio, utilizar filtros, productos biodegradables y ser consciente de que todas nuestras acciones, a\u00fan peque\u00f1as como lavar un plato, tienen consecuencias.\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Todo en exceso es malo. Lo importante es encontrar el balance. Hay una gran cantidad de evidencia cient\u00edfica que indica que las actividades humanas provocan un desbalance en el ecosistema y esto no es natural, no forma parte del ciclo natural de la vida en la tierra. Es un proceso que estamos generando nosotros como seres humanos por no ser conscientes de que debemos vivir en armon\u00eda con TODO lo que nos rodea. La soluci\u00f3n es simple: sacarnos la venda, darnos cuenta y actuar en consecuencia.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\" class=\"has-huge-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How your soap is causing biodiversity loss in rivers\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are approximately 19 rivers and streams between Cabo Blanco and Caletas-Ario which flow into the Pacific Ocean. <strong>Every river has a pivotal role in the water cycle <\/strong>and every element of each river is necessary for their correct functioning.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We run water quality monitoring tests every month in these rivers to know the state they are in, how their elements are behaving, and we analyze the different scenarios that could be harming their balance.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>January\u2019s 2020 monitoring results evidence high phosphate levels in some of these rivers. <\/strong>When phosphate is above 0.2 mg per liter, it means that there is an imbalance that generates harmful consequences for its biodiversity.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are some of the results we got in January 2020:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ario River: phosphate 0.91 mg per liter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manzanillo River: phosphate 1.75 mg per liter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carmen Stream: phosphate 0.62 mg per liter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Danta Stream: phosphate 0.26 mg per liter<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All these rivers contain high levels of phosphate. This element is a nutrient that comes from soap, detergents, fertilizers, organic and inorganic waste, forest residues, amongst other things. <strong>If we do not have proper water treatment systems in our homes or businesses, we are contributing directly to the increase of phosphate in the rivers and therefore, to a decrease of their biodiversity.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result of high phosphate levels, a process called eutrophication originates: an increase of nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, feed the algae which results in their excessive reproduction causing water turbidity and a reduction of the oxygen levels in that ecosystem. When this happens, the other living beings in that river do not have enough light or oxygen to survive, ultimately generating a decrease in its biodiversity.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What can you do to stop killing little fish and other living things with your soap and your excrement? <strong>You must install a proper water treatment system in your home or business, use filters, biodegradable products, and be aware that all our actions, even small ones like washing dishes, have consequences.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything in excess is bad. Finding a balance is crucial. There is a great deal of scientific evidence that indicates that human activities create imbalance in the ecosystem. This is not natural, it is not part of the natural cycle of life on earth. It is a process us human are generating by not being aware that we must live in harmony with EVERYTHING around us.
