Un turista viene a Santa Teresa a disfrutar de playas paradisíacas y surfear o nadar en sus aguas, se hospeda en un hotel situado en este hermoso lugar, al cual sabe que hay que proteger de la contaminación, hace una donación al hacer el check-out y contribuye a que las aguas residuales del liceo -por ejemplo- sean tratadas adecuadamente. ¡Un círculo perfecto! 

El comedor del Liceo alimenta a más de 100 estudiantes por día, generando una gran cantidad de aguas residuales. Las trampas de grasa que tenían anteriormente, no eran lo suficientemente eficientes para tratar estas aguas de forma apropiada. Las trampas de grasa son un sistema de tratamiento primario de las aguas residuales utilizadas en restaurantes, hoteles, cafeterías o casas, y tienen por objetivo separar el agua de los residuos sólidos y restos de grasa para evitar que contaminen la tierra y el agua o que obstruyan el drenaje.

Felices y agradecidos por el trabajo en equipo y por el amplio apoyo de la comunidad, pudimos rehabilitar las trampas de grasa existentes e instalar dos nuevas trampas en el Liceo. Este proyecto fue liderado e implementado por Sandy Fogg, voluntaria de Estados Unidos, con ayuda de Kenneth Alfaro, Coordinador de Proyectos de Prevención de Contaminación y Luis Iglesias y con fondos del proyecto “Donaciones al check out” del Hotel Flor Blanca. 

Con el apoyo de la comunidad y la unión de fuerzas y recursos se pueden hacer proyectos de gran impacto y de gran beneficio. Todos los hoteles de la zona o casas de alquiler se pueden sumar a esta iniciativa y apoyar este tipo de proyectos. We installed new grease traps at the Santa Teresa High School thanks to the “Donations at checkout” project

A tourist comes to Santa Teresa to enjoy paradise-style beaches and surf or swim in its waters, stays at a hotel located in this beautiful place, which he/she knows must be protected from pollution, makes a donation when he leaves, and contributes to the installation of an efficient water treatment system for the local school -for example-. A perfect circle, don’t you think?

The school cafeteria feeds more than 100 students daily which generates a considerable amount of wastewater. Their previous grease traps were not efficiently built and didn’t have the capacity to treat the volume of wastewater they were receiving. Grease traps are primary treatment systems used in hotels, cafeterias, restaurants, or houses that separate water from solids and grease, thus preventing that this wastewater from polluting the earth or water, or from obstructing drainages.

We are happy and grateful to have been able to fix the existent grease traps and install two new ones at Santa Teresa’s high school. This project was led and implemented by Sandy Fogg, volunteer from the US, with the help of Kenneth Alfaro, Waterkeeper’s Water Pollution Prevention Coordinator, and Luis Iglesias and was done with funds from the “Donations at Check-out” project at FlorBlanca.
